Splitting Yarn

Dividing a ball of really thick yarn into two balls of thinner yarn Sometimes a yarn comes along in a perfect color, but it's just too thick. Many yarns are available in worsted weight in colors not available in thinner weights. Crochet works up thicker than knitting, so thinner yarns can work better for crocheted fabrics. Free Pattern! Knitted Kids' Mittens and Fingerless Mitts

Here's a fast and easy pattern for mittens or fingerless mitts to fit the 3-6 year old set. This is a perfect last-minute gift or charity project. These mitts and mittens work up really fast, because they are made with worsted weight yarn, on size 7 needles, and there are no fancy stitches or fiddly shaping. Since they are sized for small children, I've included a built in cord to connect the mittens to each other (That's something you can do with any mitten pattern!). There's also minimal distinction between the cuff and the palm, meaning that the mittens can grow with the child for a little while. No yardage requirements are given in the pattern, because there are too many variables to take into consideration. That said, these mitts and mittens use very little yarn. Product Review! Arcane Fibre Works

My last post was introducing the Elegant Ascot as the newest Stitch Whisper pattern. That ascot was made holding together a strand of lace weight mohair and a strand of Arcane Fibre Works hand-dyed, chunky weight yarn. Arcane Fibre Works is a Canadian hand-dyer based in Alberta. They offer dozens of gorgeous colorways, and I genuinely had trouble choosing what to buy. Ultimately, I bought a skein of their sock yarn (in the Green of Wheat colorway) and a skein of chunky in Raspberry Delight . All their colorways are offered in fingering, DK, worsted, and chunky, with the fingering and DK being 80/20 merino/nylon blends and the worsted and chunky being pure merino. All skeins are 100 grams. The two skeins I ordered arrived promptly and as described. The colors were true to the pictures on the website. What really caught my attention, though, is that these skeins are the softest merino wool I've ever encountered, hands down. Despite being so soft, however, they don't snag...
