These three classic designs all use (knit 1, purl 1) for the basic fabric and are completelyreversible. Each scarf here is about 60 inches long, which is a perfectly respectable length for scarves, and 5-8 inches across. All three call for worsted or Aran weight yarn and size 9 needles.

The first is a simple 1x1 rib, so it looks like stockinette on both sides, but it lies flat.

The second uses the 1x1 rib base and includes cables, creating a subte, but elegant, pattern.

The third has a bigger cable and uses a background of seed stitch, which is still all about (knit 1, purl 1).
