Free Pattern! Bee Wing Applique (Knitted)

Many years ago, I used a partial skein of yellow sock yarn to make socks for my eldest son, who was a toddler at the time. It turned out that I didn't have enough of that skein to make a full pair of toddler socks, so I grabbed a partial skein of navy tweed sock yarn and striped it with the yellow down the feet of the socks.

When the socks were done, they were very obviously a scrap yarn project, and I wanted them to look a bit more intentional. Yellow with dark stripes made me think of bees, so I embroidered a smiley face on the sock toes and added antennae. Then I grabbed some white thread and knitted two pairs of wings. I think they came out really cute, so I posted the rough pattern here. Now, I've edited that pattern and turned it into a free pdf you can download.
