I've been seeing targeted ads of Facebook from Mountaintop Yarns for a year or so now. Mountaintop Yarn is a hand dye business operating out of Bluffton, SC, a small town not too far north of Savannah, GA.
The skein of sport weight I used to make a Bottoms Up Baby Sweater for my baby daughter. The yarn was wonderful to work with on a size G (4 mm) hook, and one skein was enough for a 6 month size sweater, with just about ten yards leftover. I'm not sure what I'll do with the other two skeins, but I really look forward to using them. The Solita Fingering (left) is a single ply wool, and the skein I received is a lovely combination of green, brown, and salmon that reminds me of a rose garden. The Glitter Sock (right) is a mottled brown that almost has a pink feel to it. Both feel amazing.
As I was planning out my project for the next several months, one of the patterns I have planned for this year involves mohair, and I don't have anything appropriate that would photograph well in my stash. Since my first order with Mountaintop got me a 15% off coupon for my next order, I went back to the website and picked out a skein of a laceweight brushed suri/silk blend called Pluma. The colorway I chose is a beautiful blue, purple, and turquoise blend called Serenity. As shown on the website, the colors can vary significantly from one yarn base to the next, as is to be expected, but the skein that arrived is true to the website photograph of Pluma in that colorway. The yarn arrived in perfect condition, packaged in a cellophane bag inside a plastic shipping bag.
When ordering from Mountaintop Yarns, the yarn might need to be dyed to order, and the order confirmation email indicates the need to be patient about receiving your order for that reason. It did take a couple weeks from ordering to receipt. Speaking of dyeing to order, one of the services Mountaintop offers is custom dyeing sessions.
There are several colorways from Mountaintop that I really, really like, so when they ran a 40% off sale in late May, I couldn't resist. Mountaintop's darker neutrals especially call to me. I purchased two each of Engagement Party in Glitter Sock, Homestead in Marshmallow DK, and Paint Horse in Marshmallow Worsted, which was enough, even with the deep discount, to get free shipping. The Marshmallow DK and Worsted are both superwash wool. I should be receiving those in a few days, if the tracking information is to be trusted. I'll post an update to this article when those six skeins arrive.
Overall, I've been very pleased with my experiences ordering from Mountaintop yarn. The yarn is lovely, the shipping reliable, and the deal irresistible. This is not a sponsored post. I'm just a happy customer, and you'll be seeing more from these yarns in the future!
