This asymmetric cowl configuration caught my attention with both its simplicity and its practicality. I published a pattern for a crocheted version last year. This pattern is the knitted version.
The actual knitting simply produces a rectangle, but the way it is sewn into a cowl produces an attractive and very warm kerchief edge in the front and a narrow strip that fits nicely under a jacket or coat in the back. The way it is sewn also means that the initial rectangle is a bit smaller than the body of most cowls. This pattern specifically is worked from corner to corner, both to avoid creating any hard edges and to make sewing the seam as simple as possible.
This cowl is worked in lace weight mohair (but you could also use a DK weight yarn) and size 7 (4.5 mm) needles.
